We often put on their soothing computer lullabies when things get frantic in our studio. We’ll let them introduce themselves...

“Hello. We are Lullatone, an art, music and good ideas group. We like making stuff!”

Names: Shawn and Yoshimi

Company: Lullatone / Lullatone Melody Design

Website: (see bottom for even more links)

Education: Kansai Gaikokugo Daigaku (in Japan) and Bellarmine University (in the States)

Describe your work: We started off making art pop records. Lately we also make special commissioned melodies for movies, museums, websites and commercials. Other than that, Shawn hosts a weekly children’s TV show here in Japan. We really like making stuff!

Inspirations: Little things, things that spin and English as a second language.

Awards or Recognition: Lots of kids come to talk to Shawn in the park because of his TV show. That is the best kind of recognition!

Future Projects/Goals: We want to make iphone apps that allow anyone to make their own lullatone song easily.

What is one word that describes your artist style? Wide-eyed.

How did you get started working with ROLLOUT? Jonathan from ROLLOUT was nice enough to order a big batch of CDs from us. Needless to say, we fell immediately with their wonderful work.

Please list a few cool or inspirational websites you visit and love:
Our friend Hikaru’s blog (she makes tons of great things)
All of Daniel Eatock’s work
Superlocal’s Flickr (we LOVE Korea)

What resources do you use for creating your work?
1. Daydreaming while riding a bike
2. Humming in the bathtub
3. a lot of little instruments
4. a computer to synchronize everything and make it sound professional

Can you share any of your secret tips? Almost all instruments sound better if you record them on cassette one time before you put them in the computer.

What did your parents want you to be instead of an artist?
Shawn: Rich
Yoshimi: Married to someone rich

Is there a piece of art you wished you had created, and why? Not really. But, we are totally inspired by everything Bruno Munari made!

What gets you excited about tomorrow? Just thinking about tomorrow is enough to get us excited. Everyday is awesome!

How would you refer to the current artistic style and mindset you live in today? Super naive. We want to try everything.

Anything else you’d like to add?
